About My Project
While brainstorming for what I should do for my project I started to think about problems that constantly occur at our school that can be fixed. One of the main things that came to mind was vandalism and students not treating our campus with the respect it deserves. As I started to research methods and practices other schools used to fix this problem. It seemed there was always a common theme. The common theme was boosting school pride among students. Alot of methods involoved visuals such as awards/trophies and just cool things that happened that year. Thats when I got the idea of building kihei charter a award case.
I talked it over with my mentor and some of the higher ups in the school, and they all liked the idea. Next was to plan the size of the case, the materials, and the location. We visted the school on one of the days my mentor and I werent busy and we were able to take measurements and find a location for the case. Next we chose out the materials. My favorite wood to use and the one that I think is the most beautiful is bamboo, so we chose bamboo. For my internship over the summer I got to become familiar with alot of materials and tools so I felt very ready to take on this type of project. Then we started the build. The build took about four Saturdays to complete. The longest part about the process was waiting for the finishes to dry. After we finished the build it was very convenient that spring break was the following week so right when we finished we were able to install it.

21st Century Skills
Throughout the process of doing this project I used and improved upon many of my 21st Century Skills. The two that I feel that I used the most were my self directional skills and my communication skills. I used my self directional skills to stay motivated and make sure that I got all of my work done. Unlike other projects ive done this one I had to to do completely on my own. Yes, I did have help but the majority was me. I used my communication skills to coordinate times with my mentor and school staff. Its sometimes challenging trying to coordinate a time that multipe people can meet up because we are all very busy with school or a full-time job.
